Amy, Kate and I took a weekend trip to New York City exactly two months after 9/11. This gallery is a larger collection of the photos I took while visiting Lower Manhattan. It was around this time that enough debris was cleared away so visitors could get close enough for direct look at Ground Zero. Here's the intro text of my blog post from that weekend:
11/11: A pilgrimage to ground zeroWe drove up to New York City for the weekend to visit Ground Zero, and to contribute to the economy. Eight weeks after the attacks, the city seems to be returning to normal, except for the memorials and the area of destruction itself. But it's hard to see the lasting effects in a quick weekend trip. NPR says there are still 10,000 people displaced from their apartments, and tens of thousands more have lost their jobs. Here are some photos:
